Meeting Description:
Panelists will present the following:
“Waiting for Superman – How Can Public Private Partnerships Assist in Creating the Education System Arizona Needs?”
The first of a series, this program will evaluate what we can do to assist in helping charter schools within the communities that they serve. The panel will discuss what charter schools do to encourage students to attend their schools. There is a perception in the media and the public sector that charter schools take students and funding from the public school system. As a result, the public schools need to manage with less money for teachers and student activities. The public schools feel they are not viable in the community. How can our communities develop a program which can benefit both public and charter school systems? The panelists will also discuss the pros and cons of funding charter schools. As Mortimer Adler, an American philosopher, educator, and popular author once said “…the best education is the best education for all”. This panel will explore how we as an industry can help build schools which are good for students.
Panelists:
- Eileen Sigmund, CEO, Arizona Charter Schools
- John R. Snider, Managing Director, RBC Capital Markets, LLC
- Dan Scoggin, CEO, Great Hearts Academies
A portion of the meeting will be a working session to begin development of the 2011 Annual Public Private Partnership Conference scheduled for Tuesday, October 19, 2011. We will also discuss potential topics and speakers for future monthly Task Force meetings.
