This presentation provides some insight into a renovation of a 35 year old facility and an overall project goal to eliminate duplication of design and detailing efforts through the use of a BIM process. In addition to using laser scanning, and BIM, the accuracy for as-built information to be used as the model baseline was dramatically improved versus traditional field measuring. McCarthy used laser scanning of existing systems to be used in 3D modeling for crash detection and updating as-built conditions.
